BOG STANDARD
We’ve all heard of the expression ‘toilet humour’ but wouldn’t necessarily associate it with the ladies restroom. Manchester’s Nexus Art Cafe, popular with students and the city’s young creatives boasts a ladies toilet with wall-to-wall graffiti celebrating the joys and frustrations of modern life.
The toilets are soon to be relocated and much of this inventive social comment will end up in a builders skip, but Nexus plan to preserve the end wall and its scribblings for the centre piece in the room’s new role as an art workshop.

A creative spin off from this graffiti are the ‘Bog Standard’ hand painted T-shirts and bags on sale in the cafe… based on the words and artwork found on the walls and doors of the ladies toilets. These resourceful entrepreneurs are keen to acknowledge their raw material, “A big thanks to our contributing artists whoever you are!”
